Nothing!

Because God is holy, He cannot tolerate any evil. Compared
to His standard of perfection, even our best thoughts and
actions fall short.

“For whoever keeps the whole law and yet stumbles at just one
point is guilty of breaking all of it.” James 2:10

And because God is holy and just, He must punish anyone
who is guilty of breaking His laws.

God must punish our sin because He is holy, but He wants
to save us because He loves us.

How did God solve this problem?
God Himself, In the Person of Jesus Christ, Died In Our Place

“For Christ also died for sins once for all, the righteous for
the unrighteous in order that He might bring us to God”
1 Peter 3:18

“But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we
were yet sinners, Christ died for us.” Romans 5:8

God’s love and justice were both demonstrated at the cross.
How? Jesus, as our substitute, willingly suffered the punishment
of death we deserved. Because of His death and resurrection,
God can now offer eternal life as a free gift.

Does everybody receive this gift?
“I am the way" "no one comes to the Father except through Me.”
John 14:6

No, Only Those Who Believe In Jesus Christ Receive Eternal Life

“For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son,
that whoever believes in Him should not perish, but have eternal life.”
John 3:16
